Low-budget monster movie workhorses Joe Estevez (star of 60% of straight-to-vhs horror films) and director Gary Jones (who worked himself up from an effects guy on Evil Dead to a director/writer of similar fare) team up to deliver an American take on the Finnish film Rare Exports. Instead of a bloodthirsty Santa, Axe Giant twists the tall tale of Paul Bunyan into one of vengeance as the outsized lumberjack goes to murderous town on a bunch of jerkoff kids who desecrated the grave of Babe (the ox, not the pig).
Estevez looks to be in high, crazy-eyed form as a weird dude in the woods. And Dan Haggerty (TV’s Grizzly Adams) appears as well — probably because he’s upset over Bunyan’s tendency to murder bears. Looks to be great fare for lovers of low-budget moster fun.
